Apollo

typography meets illustration

This project pairs an examination of type anatomy for the font Apollo with digital illustrations of birds in order to mimic, and modernize, traditional guide books. Acting as a guide both to Apollo, the typeface designed by Adrian Frutiger, and to the birds represented through ‘comparative anatomy’ exercises.

This book design project from Spring 2019 was done as a class assignment at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.

NOTE: The illustration of Adrian Frutiger found on the 4th image in the spreads gallery was done via direct photo reference with minor manipulation to stylistically match the other illustrations.
